Krav Maga Training Urlaub
Father and Son Ralf and Aaron are just completing their first Krav Maga Training Holiday here in South Tenerife. I want to say a massive congratulations to both of them as they are finishing an extremely tough and challenging 2 weeks of training. What makes the especially impressive for them is that neither of them has done any form of training or exercise for years.
Krav Maga
Krav Maga is a self defence system used by the Israeli Army and is now being used by many different security services all over the world. Consisting of the most effective and brutal points of many different styles of fighting. It is a system that is continually changing and evolving as the threats to global security are changing. Krav Maga is not meant to look pretty or consist of many fancy martial arts moves. It is blunt and effective and to do the maximum damage in the minimum time with the minimum risk to the practitioner.
Their week began with learning the basics such as stance, balance, different types of striking and how to block. A huge part of training is putting it all in to practice. Which means learn how to strike then put the gloves on and try it for real.
Defence from Punches & Kicks
Most street attacks will begin with either straight punches to the face or hooks coming round to the side of the face. So these are the primary techniques are dealing with this type of attack. We always practice several variations for every type of attack. This is because every person is different and every attacker is different. Therefore what works well on one person does not necessarily have the same effect on someone else. We must always be ready to adapt which is important in any fight or attack situation.
Weapons Attacks
Unfortunately weapon attacks are becoming more and more common in everyday life. We think it is imperative to train everyone the basics of defending a knife attack. Anyone has access to a knife and they don’t need any skill to use it or cause a lot of damage. The first thing we teach pupils is 360 degree blocking. This means blocking knife attacks coming at the body from many different angles. Blocking is with the bones in the wrist and forearm and not the hand as this has a much harder impact on the attacker.
Stick Attacks or Blunt Edge Weapons
We then move onto stick attacks and various blunt edge weapons. These weapons have a different movement and threat to that of a knife attack. Therefore the techniques and mentality is a little different. Get into the shoulder as fast as possible to control the whole arm. Weapons training takes time. But even if the students can leave with a bit of an idea how to move in such a situation it gives them a better chance of survival.
After 2 weeks of intensive training I am delighted and extremely proud of the phenomenal progress they had both made. Not only in a self defence sense but an overall improvement in health. Aaron lost 30cms off his body size and Ralf lost 29cms.
